Amanda Brugel

Pointe Claire in Montreal's West Island is a tiny, quiet town. It is a part of the island that has been called "the West Island." West Island has a lot of different communities. Many who've never been aware of it frequently confuse it with an island that is west-facing. Amanda Brugel's birthplace is frequently referenced, however her brief stay did not last long. Brugel was raised in Courtice close to Oshawa in Ontario. Her first ambition was to be an expert dancer. Then, a growth spurt caused her to outgrow all of the dance partners she had. She admitted in an article that was published in The Toronto Star that she is 6'1" tall when wearing heels. Once I outgrew male partners, that's when I gave up. Some former dancers switch into acting. In the case of Brugel, it was a nudge from a high school drama teacher who led her in the right direction. The teacher recommended that she audition for an annual school play. The audition was successful and she was chosen in the role of Anne of Green Gables. It led to her receiving a Fine Arts Talent Scholarship from York University. In 2000 she earned her BA in Fine Arts at York University. In the last 20 years, her roles in the world of television and on the screen have been varied. Her role as Rita from the award-winning show The Handmaid's Tale was her most famous. Brugel was the sole Canadian actor in the season 1 and was only seen at times.
